Sword & Soil
A downloadable demo for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Summer is almost over in the rural town of Riverford. The harvest is in, the farm's cart is loaded, and your old father's knee has really been bothering him...

Your family bought this year's seed on credit. The grain buyer in town pays full price so long as the harvest reaches him before the autumn fair. Your father has hauled that cart every year, but this year he can hardly stand. Strangely, slimes have been spotted much farther south than usual. Add those up and we have an adventure on our hands! So, the trip into town falls on you, but only once the chores are finished.
The opening quest will take you through a detailed, lived-in world full of interesting and engaging characters. Your neighbors keep their own hours and have their own work to see to. Talk to someone in daylight and again after dark, and you'll hear something different.

The farming and the fighting lean on each other. What you grow and catch feeds you on the road, and what you sell at market pays for weapons and armor in town.
You'll need plenty of food and equipment, because at night the lamps come on... and danger comes out.
A few things to experience in the demo:
- Real-time combat where spacing and stamina matter.
- Farming, complete with tilling, watering, planting seeds, and time to harvest.
- Fishing and cooking, with meals that help in a fight or on the farm.
- A crafting workbench, plus weapons and armor to buy in town.
- A market that drops the price of anything you sell too much of.
The variety of craftables is limited for now, but the systems are scalable and should work nicely in the long run.

This is a work-in-progress demo. It covers the first major quest of the full game, about 30 to 60 minutes, and runs on Windows and Linux.
There's more of the world past where the demo ends, I'm just still building it!
The demo is completely free. If you enjoy it and want to help, any financial support is greatly appreciated. I've already put hundreds of hours into this game, and every bit helps me keep going.
Everything was created and built on Windows, and I do not have a way to tests on Linux or Mac, so please be patient and provide feedback if your experience isn't what you expect on non-Windows platforms.

I've been working on this game, on and off, for the last year or so. It's been a lot of fun learning the Godot Engine, and I've grown much more comfortable with it in that time. I've prepared this vertical slice demo so that I can, hopefully, get valuable feedback to help me understand what works and what doesn't. My goal for this game is a sort of mashup between the original Dragon Warrior trilogy, Zelda NES, and Stardew Valley.
Please, if you take the time to install the demo and give it a playthrough, send me any and all feedback you have in the comments or by email at ogquestdev@gmail.com. It goes a long way toward helping me develop a game that is designed well and, more importantly, fun!
The base art is the Lil' Dragon pack by Raou. It's a beautiful pack and they are a great artist. I highly recommend you check them out! The rest of the art was drawn in Aseprite, either built from the pack or inspired by it.
AI tools were used to aid in code implementation. All art (of course, minus that by Raou), story, world, and design are my own work.

I played about an hour, and even though there are a few small issues, the game in general is lovely and fun. The base mechanics are very engaging for the little slice I experienced; I definitely will keep an eye out for more updates.
hey thank you!
